Freelance Writing and Personal Writing

If you can write to at least eighth grade level, then you might want to consider freelance writing as a career option. Obviously it takes time and practice to develop your writing and before you can charge a worthwhile amount for your work, but if you persevere, you could make a reasonable living from your writing.

One of the problems for many full time freelancers is that by the time they have finished all their work for the day, the last thing they want to do is to get back on the computer and write for their own edification. If your dream is to write a novel and have it published, then you need to make time for this type of writing, no matter how full your diary is.

Organize Your Time

Many people, writers in particular, find it difficult to organize their day in a way they would like, and that would give them time for their own writing. The first thing to do is to write down everything that you do for the next week or two, including taking a shower and brushing your teeth. At the end of a week or a fortnight you should be able to see where the time has actually gone and in which areas you can make some changes.

Quite a few freelance writers have found that the only way to get themselves working on their novel or short story, is to make some time first thing in the morning. Whether you prefer to write by hand or straight onto the computer is entirely up to you - though you should keep a writer's notebook where you can jot down ideas, overheard speeches etc. that you can work from. Most writer's notebooks are organized in a way that suits the individual writer, just make sure that when you organize yours you know where to find what you want. Getting your personal writing out of the way first thing in the morning works well for some people but not for others.

Schedule Your Personal Writing Time

Not all of us are terribly motivated first thing in the morning, but there are ways of scheduling your writing to fit in with your lifestyle. Look at how you spent your time over the course of a week and try to find periods where you were either procrastinating so a job took you longer than usual, or your were not doing much. Once you have decided on a time, which should be around 20-25 minutes, put it in your diary for the next seven days and make sure that you stick to it. You will soon develop the habit of getting on with your personal writing.

  2. I like you post it to much To make sure you keep up your participation levels, log on to your course at least 5 to 6 times a week, but ideally once every day. Your classmates will be adding to the discussion each day, and missing several days in a row will make it difficult to adequately participate. Asking questions shows that you are taking an active role in your education by trying to understand each concept fully.MBTI Hunter
